About the Toronto Beaches Children’s Chorus
Bronwen Low has been singing in stage and concert productions since she was a child. This passion for the arts led her to The University of Western Ontario where she completed her Bachelor of Music with voice. She furthered her studies at The Royal Conservatory and with Kimberly Barber at Laurier. Ms Low also continued her studies in education and has her masters in Orff music which she teaches for the Toronto District School Board.
Bronwen also works with the education and outreach department of the Canadian Opera Company in programs weaving the joy of singing with drama, orff and the world of opera.
She is delighted to be working with these wonderful children in her own community and is very excited that the organization has grown to five levels of instruction in such a short time.
Joanne is a stage director, actor and drama teacher. She holds a honours BA in Drama for Queen’s University, a B Ed from OISE/ Univeristy of Toronto and a MA in Drama from the University of Toronto. Joanne has been teaching drama to children for many years, with the Toronto Beaches Children’s Chorus, the Canadian Children’s Opera Company and Young People’s Theatre. She also writes and adapts plays for children to perform. Selected directing credits include Fame Jr., HMS Pinafore, Into The Woods, The Wizard of Oz and Oliver! And, during the school day, Joanne is a Kindergarten teacher with the Toronto District School Board.
Michael Gomiega completed his Bachelor’s degree in Music, Major in Piano as magna cum laude from the University of the Immaculate Conception, Davao City, Philippines. He also attended the National Ballet School of Canada’s Musician’s Mentoring Program as a dance accompanist.
His love for choral music has enabled him to work with the world renowned choral group Himig Singers as their concert accompanist/baritone during the group’s 6th International Concert Tour performing in key cities in Ontario and Quebec (2004-2006).
Michael is also an arranger and composer. His music was used in a New York based indie film Tears In The Rain (2007), and has done several commissioned choral works and recordings. Also skilled in playing the violin, he has appeared as a guest soloist in various church concerts and fund raising events.
He is currently involved with two other choirs, the Bel Canto Singers, and the University of Toronto Scarborough Campus Concert Choir; with the latter performed opera roles in Schumann’s Genoveva (2010) and Menotti’s The Saint of Bleecker Street (2011).
Michael is absolutely thrilled to be working with the Toronto Beaches Children’s Chorus. Making music with these young singers are fun, refreshing, and energizing.
Jessica completed her Doctorate of Music at Indiana University where she majored in Vocal Performance and did a double minor in Stage Direction and Music Education. She has worked as an instructor at Indiana University, Indiana State University, Western Washington University and most recently as Assistant Professor of Voice at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.
Jessica has sung with Lyric Opera Cleveland, the Sarasota Opera Association, the Bloomington Early Music Festival, the Janiec Opera Company (Brevard, North Carolina), and Indiana University Opera Theater.
Jessica recently moved back to Canada after fourteen years in the States. She is home raising her three small children, Patrick, Gilly, and Ross and is thrilled to be working with the Toronto Beaches Children’s Chorus.
